Local Contractor Who Serves The Community: Safelight Renovation

Dunlap Construction has been serving the greater Western North Carolina region since 1979. As a result, we have become a trusted partner for many local businesses, hospital systems, municipal projects, and more. Our involvement in community organizations makes us one of the top local contractors for nonprofit agencies. We recently had the opportunity to work on some renovations to Safelight, an important agency in Hendersonville dedicated to supporting survivors of interpersonal violence, sexual assault and child abuse. Read on to learn more about this project and the services Safelight provides.

Safelight Renovation: Scope Of Work

The project at Safelight was truly top to bottom – we made updates to each floor that enhanced the function of the space. In the lobby, we constructed a new office in an alcove with a window. In addition, we added easy access data ports. Not all renovation is glamorous, but it still has to be done! The storefront wall had a leak that needed repair. We removed the old caulking and re-caulked the wall to stop the leak.

Moving to the second floor, we did extensive work to the floor plan to create more office space and storage:

  • Installed 2 new doors in hall for file storage (locked access)
  • Constructed 2 new offices with new doors, power outlets, & data ports
  • Added double doors to existing offices
  • Installed sound insulation in all new walls
  • Painted all new walls and existing hallway
  • Closed existing door to lobby

Plus, we made improvements to the bathroom as well:

  • Cleaned and polished the Terrazzo stairs
  • Repaired walls and replaced damaged ceiling tiles
  • Painted all walls
  • Installed new floor covering throughout all finished areas
  • Added new LED lighting
  • Installed new plumbing fixtures
  • Constructed 2 new shower stalls
  • Installed owner furnished range hood
  • Painted existing toilet room floors
  • Installed FRP on all toilet ceilings

The result is a fresh, multi-functional space for clients that feels comfortable and home-like.
